City representative Samuel Roberts attended Citizens for Safe Cycling’s Advocacy Working Group (AWG) meeting to get feedback on the city’s proposed plan to improve winter maintenance for cycling. Currently, only the Laurier Bike Lane and pathways classified under the sidewalks act are cleared in winter (approximately 21 km).
Ottawa Airport Parkway pedestrian and bike bridge finally open
It took a a couple of years longer than planned but the bridge is finally open. Judging by the large turnout (an estimated 300 cyclists and pedestrians) the bridge is going to be popular.
Laurier Avenue segregated bike lane project wins 2015 Sustainable Community Award
Since 2000, the Federation of Canadian Municipalities has celebrated best practices in sustainable community development through its annual Sustainable Community Awards. The Awards are open to all Canadian municipal governments and their private-sector partners. FCM’s Green Municipal Fund is the primary sponsor of the Awards.

The Ministry of Transportation of Ontario has been working hard on collecting ideas from stakeholders in the wonderful of cycling (including yours truly Ctizens for Safe Cycling) on how to improve cycling in Ontario. From long meetings came long lists and from long lists came an action plan.
