Updates on our ongoing bike advocacy in Ottawa
Today, December 14, the City of Ottawa’s budget for 2017 was discussed and passed at council (24-0). City budgets may not get most people excited, but this one is special. What makes it unique is that the city has received money from the federal public transit infrastructure fund (PTIF).
Bike Ottawa needs your help, today. Maybe by tomorrow at the very latest. We need you to add your voice to the call for space for cycling on the Booth street bridge.
While some experienced and confident cyclists find sharrows help emphasize their right to use the road, sharrows do not generally improve the safety or comfort of the average person. They are not a suitable substitute for cycling infrastructure for people of all ages and abilities.
If you regularly cycle on the stretch of the NCC Ottawa River Pathway that runs past the Mill Street Brew Pub’s parking lot, you might have already noticed recent improvements that now prevent parked cars from intruding onto the pathway.
