A Very Bad Week on Ottawa Roads

Just over a week ago, the provincial government announced it was looking at banning bike lanes anywhere that might take away a lane of car traffic. That was followed a few days later by the Premier making exaggerated (false) claims about Toronto bike lanes. You can read the fact check here.

So far this week we have had one cyclist killed, another critically injured, and someone seriously injured (at least) while riding a scooter on Carling Avenue at the 417 underpass this morning (a Bike Ottawa member happened to pass by while the police, scooter and vehicle were still there. They had seen the ambulance heading towards the site a few minutes before). We hope they will be okay.

A Bike Ottawa member spotted this accident at St Joseph Boulevard and 10th Line on Saturday morning and could only think about how lucky the person on that little blue scooter was.

Photo of a collision that destroyed two SUVs and at least one light standard, and appears to have barely missed someone riding a blue electric scooter in an area with no separated bike lanes or sidewalks.

Doug Ford, you need to give your bike-helmeted head a shake.
