Come and celebrate winter cycling with Citizens for Safe Cycling. This is already our 4th family winter cycling parade and none of the previous ones were cancelled. See, winter biking is not so bad.
Bike ride
This year is an easy, 4km guided bike ride through Centretown. We start at the south end of City Hall (the sunny side). You can wait inside, we’ll leave at 11:00 sharp after we have listened to a brief intro with the route, safety instructions etc.
Panel
But that is not all. This year we have a winter bike forum with city councillors McKenney, Fleury, Chernushenko, Leiper and Nussbaum to discuss winter cycling plans. Bring your questions!
Route
The ride is a fun ride, we are definitely not going to set personal bests. We start at City Hall, cycle down Cartier, bike a bit on Queen Elizabeth Drive, westbound on MacLaren all the way to Bay and Eastbound again on Laurier towards City Hall. that should be about 4 km. Here is the map.
Prizes
Plus this year, for the first time, we have prizes for the bike in the worst state of repair (but still safe and cyclable) and for the youngest cycling participant.
Riders have to follow the rules of the road. CfSC has done everything within reasonable expectations to keep the parade safe. You should have reasonable cycling skills, a bike in good working order and common sense. We have had no problems in any past events.
This event is sponsored in part by councillor Catherine McKenney’s office.
