I took my bike to do four errands today. It took me 58 minutes by bike and it would have been 41 minutes by car. Why was the bike a better option?
A very informal cycling audit (tldr: It’s bad out there!)
A couple of days ago, I had to do a few errands that required me to ride through parts of Vanier, New Edinburgh, Sandy Hill and to City Hall. The total distance was under 13 km. Here’s what I encountered:

I drove my car for some errands on the weekend. To be clear, it is perfectly okay to drive a car. Sometimes they are the right tool for the job.

Ride a bike! For every 5 km ride I take by bike instead of driving a car, I prevent little over 1 kg of carbon dioxide from being released into the atmosphere. I’m not paying the carbon tax because I’m not buying gas.
