Dear residents,
This Thursday, Bike Ottawa is organising a rally to protest Bill 60 that, among other things, will ban any new bike lanes involving road reconfiguration.
Whether you bike, walk, roll or even drive, you should care about this. The Ontario government is essentially handcuffing municipalities and subjecting them to the whim of a Premier who has no interest in data and research nor in the wellbeing of Ontarians.
If passed, Bill 60, Part XII.1, Section 195.3 (1) will make it impossible for our City to make it safer for people who bike. Projects that were coming down the pipe are at great risk of being iced or ditched. And it’s not just about cycling. School streets, pedestrianisation, patios etc. are at risk too.
Adding insult to injury, the Ford government is bypassing committee hearings altogether (as it did for Bill 56), in total disdain of the democratic process.
