Lots of acults and kids riding on Jeanne D’Arc Boulevard as part of a kidical mass ride to demonstrate the need for safe cycling infrastructure. They’re taking a lane of traffic. To their right, people in cars.

Bill 60: Ontario government bypasses democratic process

After steamrolling through Bill 56 that bans speed cameras, the Ontario government is planning on bypassing the democratic process again (ie no public committee hearings) for Bill 60, the so-called Fighting Delays, Building Faster Act. This government does not want to hear any opinion that doesn’t fit its narrative (nor is it interested in data).

With these bills, the government is doing two things:

  1. Putting the lives of people outside of cars at risk by removing speed cameras
  2. Stripping cities of the power to make their streets safe for people outside of cars by banning new bike lanes that would involve road configuration

We must fight back. Here are things you can do:

  • Send a letter to the Premier, Minister Sarkaria and your MPP. Feel free to customize it.
  • Call the Premier (647-612-3673) and your local MPP. Tell them you oppose the provision of Bill 60, Part XII.1, Section 195.3 (1), that this provision puts your life at risk and it will mean more deaths, more pollution, and more gridlock, not less.

Talk to your neighbours, colleagues, family members. Ask them to voice their concern over Bill 60 too.

Voice your opposition today!
