What if, just for one week, you experienced your daily life without relying on a car? How might it change your perspective on the way our community moves?
Needing to drive is not a failure. But recognizing how hard it is to not drive, can change your perspective.
That’s why we invite you to join us for the Week Without Driving from Sept 29 to Oct 5! This initiative isn’t just about experiencing life without driving; it’s a week to step into a whole new world and discover travel without a car. Uncover new ways to make our transportation system more accessible and equitable by experiencing it firsthand.

Week Without Driving began in Washington State in 2021. Those leaders, advocates, and individuals embraced the Week Without Driving, finding it immensely beneficial. Encouraged by their experiences, the initiative went national in the US in 2023 and has continued to grow from there.
This year, Bike Ottawa and friends are issuing the challenge here in Ottawa. Together with Ecology Ottawa, For Our Kids Ottawa-Gatineau, Ottawa Transit Riders and Strong Towns Ottawa, we invite you to join us.

Your voice matters in this conversation. Your participation can bring fresh perspectives and valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities within our transportation ecosystem.
How do I participate?
The main things is to try not to travel by car from Sept 29 to Oct 5.
Other ways you can get involved include:
- You can share your commitment with friends and family, local officials, Bike Ottawa and partners in person or on social media or by email info@bikeottawa.
- Share your experiences during the week through pictures and video.
- Reflect on your week and consider writing a blog post (on your own blog or we’re happy to share for you) or an op-ed about your experiences not driving. Was it easy? Difficult? Why? What would need to change if you were not able to drive?
- Sign up for more resources and motivation from the Week Without Driving and America Walks organizers.
- Follow Bike Ottawa and friends as we share more information about the local perspective.
Are you ready to take up the challenge?
