Ottawa’s bike social: Spring.Bike.Ottawa – “Mapping Change”

Let’s celebrate the arrival of spring on Saturday, March 21st!

The 4th annual Spring.Bike.Ottawa event will have a somewhat new format, and a theme of “Mapping Change”.  We’ll start with a dynamic three-speaker panel covering the latest in cycling laws, along with local and provincial advocacy updates.

Nicole Laviolette – Professor of Law at Ottawa U, and co-author of Every Cyclist’s Guide to Canadian Law

Jamie Stuckless – ‎Executive Director at Share the Road Cycling Coalition

Schuyler Playford – Director Citizens for Safe Cycling Ottawa, and team co-author of the Annual Report on Bicycling in Ottawa

The forum will be moderated by Isabel Jenish, CfSC board member

Then we’ll have a break to catch up with the latest bike gossip over coffee/tea and cookies, from Bridgehead Coffee and Branch Out Bakery (cookies are gluten and peanut free).

Meet groups like Right Bike, Ottawa Bike Lanes, EnviroCentre, and Ottawa Centre Eco-District.  Participate in our ‘modal’ map, or sign up/renew your membership with Citizens for Safe Cycling.

After the break, Glen Gobuyan of PIXO design will talk about wayfinding. Glen has developed some wayfinding in the Capital Region and he will explain a bit more what the theories behind it are. PIXO design is a creative studio in Ottawa, committed to exploring innovative solutions to visual communication and design since 1990.

Trevor Haché will give an overview of the activities of the Healthy Tranportation Coalition, which he started last year and of which Citizens for Safe Cycling is a member. Trevor will share insights into its effort to build more livable communities through collaboration with community organizations, research, effective policy and infrastructure.

Come by between 1pm-4pm and celebrate the first day of spring among neighbours and friends!  Entrance is free, but we’d like to ask you to register so we can estimate the number of visitors.

NOTE: You can also donate any old unused bikes to Right Bike there on-site at Spring.Bike.Ottawa on March 21st, which will be restored by Cycle Salvation for community bike-share use.
