The 4th Annual Winter Cycling Parade in Ottawa was a great success. Around 50 people came out, on regular bikes, cargo bikes, on fat bikes and Xtracycles. We cycled in -16C weather (and it didn't feel that cold) with a much colder wind chill. The route went through downtown Ottawa. People had a great time, and the hot chocolate and the cookies from Yummy Cookies and sandwiches from Bread by Us were certainly appreciated after the ride.

City Proposal to Upgrade Cycling Network Winter Maintenance

City representative Samuel Roberts attended Citizens for Safe Cycling's Advocacy Working Group (AWG) meeting to get feedback on the city’s proposed plan to improve winter maintenance for cycling. Currently, only the Laurier Bike Lane and pathways classified under the sidewalks act are cleared in winter (approximately 21 km).

Ottawa Airport Parkway Pedestrian and Bike Bridge Finally Open

The Airport Parkway bridge was officailly opened on November 29, 2014 (Panorama photo: Hans Moor)

It took a a couple of years longer than planned but the bridge is finally open. Judging by the large turnout (an estimated 300 cyclists and pedestrians) the bridge is going to be popular. The bridge provides a long-overdue east-west connection over the Airport Parkway in the Nation's Capital. Lots of city staff and local politicians came out to see the opening.
