2015 Report on Bicycling Released

2015 report cover

Today, Citizens for Safe Cycling released our 4th annual Report on Bicycling. The report gives an overview of the state of cycling in the Nation's capital. As the Nation's capital suffers from an oversupply of bureaucracy, no single government is able to present the complete picture, so we'll do it for them, in our spare time no less.

50 People at Winter Bike Parade

The 4th Annual Winter Cycling Parade in Ottawa was a great success. Around 50 people came out, on regular bikes, cargo bikes, on fat bikes and Xtracycles. We cycled in -16C weather (and it didn't feel that cold) with a much colder wind chill. The route went through downtown Ottawa. People had a great time, and the hot chocolate and the cookies from Yummy Cookies and sandwiches from Bread by Us were certainly appreciated after the ride.

Come and celebrate winter cycling with Citizens for Safe Cycling. This is already our 4th family winter cycling parade and none of the previous ones were cancelled. See, winter biking is not so bad.

City Proposal to Upgrade Cycling Network Winter Maintenance

City representative Samuel Roberts attended Citizens for Safe Cycling's Advocacy Working Group (AWG) meeting to get feedback on the city’s proposed plan to improve winter maintenance for cycling. Currently, only the Laurier Bike Lane and pathways classified under the sidewalks act are cleared in winter (approximately 21 km).
